Wheel Thrown Black Porcelain Bottle 27 by Zoe Williams
Zoe Williams trained as a fine art at The University of Brighton, and relocated to Barcelona after completing her MA at Winchester School of Art. Her love for Ceramics was nurtured when she moved to California in 2009, drawing inspiration from the natural environment and make making.
She makes wheel-thrown small batch porcelain favouring the decorative over the functional with a minimal sophisticated aesthetic being principal to her practice. She has always sought inspiration from her surroundings, currently drawing on the rich coastal environment of North Somerset close to where she now lives, with its layers of sedimentary rocks and diverse community of lichens.
This new body of porcelain vessels are created using coloured clays and often enriched with porcelain inlay. Leaving the surfaces unglazed and polished, she focuses attention on the clay body itself utilising its purity and tactility.
Zoe is a resident member and former teacher at Clay Shed ceramic studio in Bristol.
