Since graduating in 1995 from Nottingham Trent University with a First Class Hons degree in Knitwear Design, Janie has worked in design studios for knitted textile companies for five years. In 2000 she left the textile industry and set up a studio at home and started to develop her own contemporary knitted fabrics using domestic knitting machines. In 2005 she moved her workshop/studio to a nearby art centre where, with the assistance of her partner Michael Hanmer, they produce all her work.
‘My aim is to be innovative with knitted texture and construction methods using machine knitting and embroidery techniques. I enjoy using natural fibres and reusing all my waste fabrics to create functional work’.
