Hannah Farthing grew up wandering the woodlands and rugged coastline of Suffolk, where she became fascinated by the sights and rhythms of the natural world. This was amplified when she first visited mountain landscapes, with their special atmosphere and ever changing weather a constant muse. Using the handmade, analogue printmaking techniques of letterpress and linocut, Hannah’s prints explore our innate connection with the natural world.
Hannah studied BA Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art (2017). She interned at letterpress printing establishments including Typoretum, UK (2017) and Hatch Show Print, USA (2016). In 2020, Hannah moved north for a year up to Edinburgh, and completed an MA in Illustration at the Edinburgh College of Art (2021). Hannah’s work has been exhibited in Suffolk, Bath, Edinburgh and Nashville. Hannah is currently based in Suffolk but regularly travels back to Scotland, the Lake District and other beautiful landscapes across the UK to explore and gather inspiration.
I use FSC certified G F Smith paper made in the Lake District for most of my prints. My woodland series is printed on paper which uses spent grains from beer brewing to add a beautiful fleck to the paper and reduce waste.
