Liz Hughes is a printmaker who makes linocut prints which are designed, and hand printed in Norwich under the mantle of The Pepper Press.

The inspiration for her work comes from the natural world, plants, animals, insects and curiosities. She is interested in colour and form and the juxtaposition of shapes and pattern. Her images often involve a lot of detail, which can be an interesting approach in relief printmaking.

Liz finds planning the final image can change considerably from its original point of conception and working in the ‘negative’ throws in its own challenges with the print reveal always creating something she hasn’t designed or conceived. This unexpected element is something she embraces with her image making.
