Peter Slight is a ceramicist producing slip-cast and hand-built ceramics from his studio near Worthing, on the South coast of the UK. Peters work is influenced by mid-century modern design, Cycladic art and brutalism, and is inspired by the work of sculptors Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, and ceramicist John Maltby. The designs are timeless, enigmatic and tactile, exploring texture, simplified forms and shapes that encourage personal connection. The ceramics are made from earthenware and finished with an off-white matt glaze. They are produced in small batches and limited editions.
Peter studied illustration at the University of Wolverhampton and graduated in 2000. He then produced freelance illustrations for a variety of clients before exhibiting his paper-cut pictures and mixed media models across the UK. Peter discovered a passion for ceramics, which he has been making and selling since 2018.
His ceramics have been selected and stocked in the Barbican’s shop, specifically in conjunction with the Jean Dubuffet : Brutal Beauty exhibition, The Wallace Collection’s shop in conjunction with the Henry Moore ‘Helmet Heads’ exhibition and also the Towner Eastbourne in conjunction with the Barbara Hepworth Art & Life exhibition. His ceramics have been featured in the following publications: Elle Decoration, Yolklore Magazine, Gervasoni catalogue & The World of Interiors. They were also specially selected for London Craft Week’s 300 Objects exhibition.
