Vessel Trials series 40 by Laura Plant
Making in her hometown of Stoke-on-Trent, Laura draws from the creative heritage and ambition of the pioneering potters who made the city famous. Taking inspiration from 18th century ceramics, Laura’s contemporary forms echo the grandeur she has long admired. Thrown in porcelain, each piece is a sketch in clay, a ‘Trial’ inspired by Josiah Wedgwood’s material tests.
Her vessels expose the unique qualities of the ceramic surface through exploration of clay bodies, glaze and making techniques. A passion for ceramic materiality is at the heart of why Laura makes and develops all her own glazes. The beauty of unglaze porcelain is showcased in contrast to the poured glaze.
To clean use a dry duster or wipe with a damp cloth. Can be hand wash with a mild detergent and non-abrasive cloth. Not dishwasher safe. Contact with metal can mark the unglazed sections of the white and pale porcelain pieces.
