Katie Almond graduated with a First class BA (Hons) Design Crafts degree in 2009 from De Montfort University (DMU) Leicester. She secured an Artist in Residence placement at DMU 2009/2010 to expand the success of her Degree collection whilst setting up her own studio in her hometown in Rutland. She is a Flair member of Design Factory and was made a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen in 2011 and her work has been featured in Period Living 2010, Essential Living and Homes and Antiques 2011.

Specialising in ceramics she produces collections of hand-painted, one-off, porcelain cups, jugs, brooches and cake stands, “these are real conversation pieces whether displayed decoratively on the sideboard or used every day on your kitchen table,” Indie Quarter blog http://www.indiequarter.com/blog . Inspired by vintage textiles, a love of tea and cakes, her Gran’s old collections of ephemera and photographs, she uses her ceramics as blank canvases for decoration and collage with ceramic decals. Her passion for drawing, colour, and text are reflected in every piece making each one individual, nostalgic and quirky.

During the Residency she made lots of contacts from selected graduate shows. New Designers (July 2009) and the Knit and Stitch show (October 2009) were platforms in making contacts and to gather experience of supplying stockists like the Designers’ Guild and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. She was also invited on a placement at Tigerprint and had 2 designs published and sold in Marks and Spencer’s nationwide.

Katie continues to build upon these achievements by showcasing her work around the UK at selected retail fairs such as the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair (GNCCF), “Made” in Brighton and the Contemporary Craft Fair Bovey Tracey. Her ceramics is now multi award winning and she also regularly exhibits at both retail and trade shows (The British Craft trade fair BCTF) to increase her presence in stockists in the UK.

All of Katie’s ceramics are watertight.
