Maike Browning makes tactile, delicate jewellery, inspired by natural forms, textiles and her travels - from the wildflowers of the hills of Scotland to the sparkling textiles and temples of India. Suggestions of intricate patterns of Indian textiles can be found in delicate wire structures and mirror like silver pieces. Maike works intuitively with precious metals to create delicate forms which subtly draw attention to the body, hoping to create work which is not only beautiful to look at but also a pleasure to wear. Maike hopes to make jewellery to be treasured for a lifetime, to be worn on very special occasions, or to add something special to the everyday.
Maike graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2010 and now works from her studio in rural Northumberland.
Maike is a Fairtrade Foundation registered jeweller and uses Fairtrade gold, recycled silver and ethically sourced precious stones wherever possible. Maike also uses recyclable packaging, and avoids the use of chemicals in her studio.
Caring for your Jewellery: Either use silver dip, or place your jewellery in a bowl lined with foil, sprinkle over a teaspoon of salt, and a spoonful of baking soda, add boiling water and leave for a few minutes until you can see your jewellery is fresh and clean!
