Spring Emerges II by Naomi Brangwyn
Using the traditional techniques of stained glass, Naomi has developed her own distinct style by including other materials, leaving gaps and layering.
Working in glass presents an immediate challenge of a limited palette available, the glass often provides the starting point – perhaps inspiring a sunset, a rough sea, a flower, and the challenge of expressing the delicate and fragile elements with something as hard and sharp as glass.
Inspiration is found in the environment - Naomi lives on the Suffolk coast with sea and countryside on the doorstep. Her glass panels invite the viewer to look not only at the larger scene, but also the random corners of nature, she’s fascinated by the element of surprise found in the wild. Nature is filled with continuity and change and can offer reassurance and healing and a place to lose the self. Designed to be hung equally well against a plain wall, the colours subtly change with the constant movement of light – the progression of the sun during the day, across the seasons, changes in weather and between natural and artificial light … each change offering a fresh discovery.
