Oxfordshire based artist, Emily Marston creates small batches of mindfully made, minimal ceramics, playing with pattern, colour, shapes and lines.
She studied Fine Art Painting at Winchester School of Art, graduating in 2004, and took a break from making, whilst focusing energy into launching other projects.
Then Emily, found clay. She had taken pottery classes as a child and worked with clay a little at school but never took it any further until 2016 when a friend invited her to join in making some pots.
Emily’s practice grew organically. She is self-taught through experimenting and research of techniques. As her work has evolved, threads of other interests have come through – architecture, nature, sky, and sea, which although not always directly translated into the works, are often present.
As a maker, it is important for Emily to consider the environmental impact of her work and makes sure to seek out sustainable products for used in the studio. She loves the natural material of clay, and that it creates something that can be kept, worn and used forever.
Every item of Jewellery is carefully designed and hand-carved making them one-of-a kind. These are then fired to a high temperature, ensuring that they are super strong. Each piece is polished after firing to create a smooth tactile surface.
